Abstract

Mo Yan is a writer renowned for blending traditional Chinese cultural values with modern Western elements, creating a literary world rich in psychological depth and humanistic insight. This study examines selected works to show that female characters in his novels reflect both traditional qualities such as endurance, sacrifice, and familial devotion, and emerging traits like personal awareness, desire for freedom, and resistance to social constraints. In the East-West cultural context, Mo Yan’s women embody intersecting cultural influences, revealing profound social transformations in modern China. The research highlights the artistic and ideological significance of his portrayal of women through an intercultural lens.
