Abstract

On the occasion of the upcoming Year of the Snake (Ất Tỵ), we have the opportunity to reflect further on an animal that is part of the twelve zodiac signs in the traditional lunar calendar of ancient Vietnam - the Snake. It appears in most of the world's mythologies, carrying various symbolic meanings. Interpretations of the snake's power are diverse across different cultures. Based on the biological and visual characteristics of the snake, it has been revered, admired, and even feared by many nations and ethnic groups worldwide. It has been personified as a symbol of water, fire, the soul, power, the creator god, and the primordial universe.
