The restoration of tradition, Funeral ritualsAbstract
This article deals with the restoration of traditional funeral rituals in a famous trading village in the suburbs of Hanoi today. Specifically, it is the return of the custom of taking care of the graves of the deceased and having friends and relatives visit the deceased's family for 49 consecutive days after the funeral. The research results show that traditional culture will not always disappear or fade away in the context of modernization as many modern theories have predicted, but can still exist and even develop more strongly. This reflects the multidimensionality of human cultural practices related to village norms, face, emotions, calculations, the desire to build identity, etc., which are subtly intertwined in what governs behaviors related to this issue.
