MEANINGFUL CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS OF LUNAR NEW YEAR PRACTICED IN VIETNAMESE SONGS AND PROVERBS

Abstract

Lunar New Year is a holiday and the most important traditional cultural activity of Vietnamese people. Lunar New Year has an extremely profound humanistic meaning because it crystallizes spiritual values as well as emotions and community cohesion in folk cultural beliefs. Folk songs and proverbs belong to the treasury of culture and folk knowledge that reflect the customs, habits, feelings and emotions of the Vietnamese people. In particular, our ancestors left behind many folk songs and proverbs about the good customs and traditions of Vietnamese people at Lunar New Year, contributing much to the national cultural identity.
