Abstract

According to the conception of Vietnamese people, things that happen in our life are not only the inevitable results of dialectical logic, the law of cause and effect, but also are influenced by spiritual elements beyond human control called luck. The luck can be seen as a contributory factor influencing an event; however, it is, sometimes, considered as an essential cause. Tet festival is a sacred moment when everything changes and people move from one state of mind to another. The conception of luck on this occasion is clearly expressed. Based on the study of community psychology and the customs and habits of Vietnamese people on Tet festival, the conceptions related to luck that are common in the community are summarized in the article.
