Abstract

Buddhism and its ideas that promote tolerance are of great significance to Vietnam's cultural history. The position and influence of Buddhism has been proven since its introduction, especially under the Ly - Tran dynasties, an important period that has the meaning of shaping Vietnamese cultural identity which is independent and autonomous. Buddhism in Thanh Hoa is rarely evaluated by researchers due to the limited amount of documentation remaining to this day. The paper analyzes aspects of Buddhism in the Ly - Tran dynasties set in the historical and cultural context of Ai Chau (Thanh land) from historical sources and epitaphs remaining to this day. Since then, we have a deeper understanding about a special historical and cultural period of Thanh Hoa under the Ly - Tran dynasties.
